AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iranian Ambassador to Spain Hassan Qashqavi blasted the US for its animosity towards Iran, and said that Washington has violated the basic human rights of the Iranians through its brutal sanctions.
"Despite the US officials' claims, their severe sanctions under harsh conditions of the coronavirus have targeted humanitarian issues, and recently it is not possible to import medicines to fight the coronavirus as a result of US sanctions," Qashqavi said in a meeting with President of Spain's Senate.
Referring to the fifth anniversary of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said that, "Global support for the implementation of Resolution 2231 and opposition to the US positions in the UN Security Council showed that American unilateralism will not work."
The Iranian ambassador, meantime, pointed to the longstanding and good relations between the two countries, and emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between Tehran and Madrid, specially in the parliamentary area.
The President of the Spanish Senate, for her part, stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening mutual cooperation and welcomed the expansion of relations between the two countries.
She, meantime, emphasized the need for global consultation and interaction in dealing with problems and disasters such as coronavirus outbreak and welcomed the expansion of interaction and consultation with Iranian officials.
In relevant remarks on Monday, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in a meeting with Head of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah warned that the US policies are based on stirring chaos and insecurity in the regional states.
“The US destructive policies have yielded no results but war, destruction and backwardness for the regional people. The US policy is based on fomenting chaos and insecurity in different places, no matter it is Afghanistan or Iraq,” Shamkhani said at the meeting in Tehran.
He described resistance and solidarity as the only way to confront the US plots, saying that it is a way already shown by former IRGC Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Afghan resistance figure Ahmad Shah Masoud.
